Dear Gymnast and Family,
Here is the latest news from Auchterarder Gymnastics Club.
Annual Display We were delighted to welcome all the gymnast, friends and family to our display in Bells just before the summer break. This was a very successful evening. The gymnasts love the opportunity to perform and it is great for families to see what they have achieved. It is the only opportunity in the year for the whole club to come together.
Thank you Denise would like to thank everyone for the donations made which enabled the club to buy her gifts on her retrial from Coaching. She received a jewellery voucher for £250 and vouchers for John Lewis for £250 as well as a personalised notice board and flowers. Summer Camps This year Fiona Cameron, Head Coach ran two camps over the summer, a 5 day and a 3 day camp. The gymnasts had a great time, learning new skills but also having fun. Both camps were fully booked. Clothing We do hold a stock of Club clothing, such as purple or blue hoodies as well as fleece lined jackets at £25. (boys navy jackets on sale £18.50 until end Nov). We also have leotards and boys shorts available to buy. Our clothing can also be purchased anytime through the Club. Just ask your coach or contact Hilary in the office.
Term Dates Term 2 -24 Oct to 20 Jan. Term 3 – 23 Jan to 30 Mar Term 4 - 16 Apr to 22 Jun. The classes will be on as normal during the in-service days on 17th & 18Th Nov.
Class Spaces There are a few spaces in some of the classes including pre-school. Please ask for an application form if you know of someone who would like to come along to our Club.
Diary Dates Holidays 9th Dec – 9th Jan Parents Open Nights Tue Boys – 6th Dec Thursday Girls – 8th Dec Mon (4pm), Tue & Fri Girls – 9th Dec Squad & Mon (6pm) Girls – 16th Dec Results ‘Celebration of Life’ Comp – We had 5 gymnasts compete with all girls being placed individually. Nina Revell took overall Silver in the F.I.G. category and Eilish Paterson took Gold at Level 4.
British Championships Thomas Cameron had a fantastic competition. He came overall 3rd in Britain, and took gold to be the British Boys Pommell Champion as well as 3rd High Bar, 3rd Floor, 4th Vault, 5th P-Bars. There were over 50 competitors in this competition. Thomas has been selected to represent Great Britain at a competition in Italy on 4th Nov. Well done Thomas and good luck.
Level 6 All Round April Heggie came 2nd Overall , taking 3rd Vault and 5th Floor. Elsa Robertson came 6th on Bars and 9th Floor. There were over 60 competitors. Level 4 All Round Age 14+ Chloe Calderwood had a great competition collecting 4 gold medals on Bars, Beam, Floor and Overall. Age 10/11 Carla McLeod came 5th Overall. Level 3 All Round Eilish Paterson came 3rd Overall and 1st on Bars. Fife Beginners Well done to Tess, Hannah, Daisy, Georgia, Heather & Ailie at this competition. Georgia Kay came 2nd Overall and Daisy Morby came 8th overall and 3rd on Vault. Level 5 All Around Well done to Sophie Curran age 14+ who was 4th Vault, 2nd Bars and 4th overall, Catherine Stokes was 5th Bars, 3rd Beam and 3rd overall. Well done to Gillian Cobban 2nd Bars.
Squad Selection Congratulations to Tara Forster who has been picked to join the Northern Ireland Squad. She will travel to Ireland and join them in National Training sessions.
Strathearn Display Team Strathearn Team attended the Sapphire 1st Birthday Celebration competition in Glasgow. The gymnasts all had a great weekend and they also performed at the Halloween Gymfest in Perth at the weekend.
Website Our website could do with redesigning. If any parent can advise or suggest who can help us and the approximate cost of this, it would be helpful.
Gymnast Coach Apprentice We welcome our new apprentice Mark Heggie this year who joins Victoria Beattie who is on the second year of her apprenticeship and has already passed her pre-school level 1 and is currently doing UKCC Womens Artistic level2. They are both supported by Sport Academy of Scotland.
AGM The AGM will be held on Monday 28th Nov, all parents are welcome to come along and learn a little more about your club. Club Contacts You can speak with any coach at a suitable time, usually before or after your childs training session. Or by arrangement if longer is required. Head Coach – Fiona Cameron Child Protection Officer – Liz Heggie & Alison Gathergood. Administrator -_Hilary Calderwood (Please note: Hilary is in the office on a part-time basis, usually Mon & Wed evening and during the day Tuesday. Any emails will be responded to but it may take a few days before you receive a reply.) Fund Raising We would like to set up a small fund raising group to organise 3 or 4 events during 2012. If you would like to be part of this group or have a good idea for fund raising please contact Fiona.
We will be running a raffle/tombola during our open nights in December. If gymnasts are able to donate a prize it would be appreciated. We also need volunteer parents to help organise the raffle. Please let a coach know if you can help.
Snow Closure In the case of bad weather forcing gymnastics to be cancelled or school closure you will be notified via Club website, Club Facebook page and we will endeavour to put an announcement on Radio Tay. Please check these.
